Digital Bridges

The digital platform for civil society dialogue and cultural journalism

Project team

Philippe Maurel, Project Coordinator

Through my studies in different EU countries and Turkey and my work experience in EU, multilateral and Turkish institutions, I aquired a strong will to contribute to the EU-Turkey civil society dialogue. Therefore, when the opportunity to coordinate the “Digital Bridges” project came to me, I immediately grabbed it. I particularly like the innovative dimension of this project that can, to my mind, impulse a modernization and a renewal of the cooperation in the field of culture and increase the involvement of youth in this sphere. I shall admit that one of the other main stimulating aspect of the project consists in working with such nice and motivating partners and students.

Emmanuel Vandamme, Team Leader

As a “team leader” in Digital Bridges, I’m managing the website and the pedagogical activities. This means setting up the site, organizing its content, and working with the students. In 2010, more than 300 mutimedia stories will be written by 25 teams of students from Bucharest, Eskisehir and Lille schools of journalism. Exciting challenge, isn’t it ? I graduated from ESJ Lille in 1994, then specialized in digital media, and I love working on international and multicultural projects.

Dr. E. Nezih Orhon, Chief Editor

I prefer not to say “I am this and that”. Simply, I am interested in cultural diversity, human rights, freedom of expression, arts, cultures, dialoques, immigrants, experiences, dissapointments, life stories and many more. I trully believe that art, journalism, new technologies, cross-cultural studies and work and related can really contribute to the issues I am interested in. I wish students from participating schools will be able tos hare all through “digital bridge” project.

Viorica Paus, Project Officer

I am associate professor, PhD,  at the University of Bucharest (Romania), the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies, where I teach intercultural communication. I always involve myself in national and international projects with great pleasure and enthusiasm, especially if  they involve student teams too.

I consider that the greatest challenge of these projects is authentic communication, interpersonal knowing and understanding, irrespective of national and ethnic identity.

The Digital Bridges project provides all the three above-mentioned component parts, completed by an original approach of Turkish culture, through the attentive eyes and open mind of the Turkish, French and Romanian students. I am glad we work together and I hope our journalistic message will be read and will attract as many virtual friends as possible.
