Turkish Pop-Rock Music at The Romanian Peasant Club

A funky girl with strong voice, four guys with shirts and ties which synchronize perfectly the four instruments they’re playing. That’s a brief definition of the Turkish pop-rock band - Model, band that ended on the 14th of May the “European Cultural Itinerary Week” from Bucharest, part of the Goethe-Institut project, “Yollarda – European Literature Goes to Turkey / Turkish Literature Goes to Europe“.

Founded in 2005 in Izmir, the band Model is very popular in Turkey but in other countries too, due to the participation at International festivals and because of the  quality of their live shows.

The turks from Model offered a great show in the The Peasant Club (Bucharest). They sang about 20 songs, both original compositions and cover songs by indie-pop-rock bands like Franz Ferdinand, No Doubt, but also by artists like Madonna, Frank Sinatra, and others. The public had a great time and overcome the language barriers. Even if the Romanians did not understand the lyrics in Turkish, they had fun, they danced and even sang with the Turks. Stereotypes were broken down. Who imagined that Turkish music is 100% Oriental rhythms, had a big surprise.

Model has a great honours list. In 2007, at the 12th contest “Tuborg Roxy Music Festival”, the five singers won the Special Billboard Prize.  Also, in the “Nokia Super Sound 07 Competition”, they riched the final with six other bands, eventually winning the  section “Best Song To Listen To With YourFriends “.

After these successes, Fatma Turgut (vocals), Okan Isik (guitar), Serkan Gürüzümcü (guitar), Can Temiz (bass) and Askin Çolak (percussion), have begun working on their new album. Thus, in 2009 they released their first EP, entitled “Circus with fairies”.
