ART GALLERIES IN ISTANBUL

Istanbul has numerous Art Galleries, but we can not visit all of them, because we usually do not have enough time and energy.

When we got on the road we found out that all of art galleries were worth seeing. Although did we meet a lot of very nice people, who were excited to talk about the exhibitions with us. They gave us information and they even sent us to other art galleries. They also told us, that the people who visit the art gallery have very often no idea about “contemporary” art because it is a new field. But it is recognizable that people start to enjoy contemporary art, thanks to these galleries. “What is contemporary art?” we have to distinguish between modern avant-garde arts as a term which refers to art produced at this present point in time, which expresses both synchronicity and coevality, and which conveys notions of collectivity as well as of timeliness. Contemporary Art is a type of art which is considered in reference to today’s’ world which evolves along with today’s concept and trends. Although which incorporates within itself many disciplines like photography, sculpturing, painting ,video-art… the art galleries we have visited gathered a  lot of different exhibitions. They were not just exhibitions of Turkish Artists, we saw a lot of works which belonged to foreign artists. For instance, the Akbank Art Gallery exhibist photos, the artists are Lara Almarcegui, Jordi Colomer, Guillaume Leblon.  The topic is “The Garden of Forking Paths”, containing photos with different colors, styles, shapes and forms. The artist minds obtain different creative channels. Lara Almarcegui is interested in “time gaps” surrounding cities or suburban towns, oblivions which are just starting to gain some life of their own. Jordi Colomer is a follower of deviating paths, that have the ability to allow the force of the intervention of the coincidence. Guilaume Leblon works on situations in an imperceptible space between best and future. “The Garden of Forking Paths” is now being displayed in Istanbul not only as a contemporary city but also a city rich in history and topography that harbors different temporalities.

Another gallery is YKY. We found another interesting exhibition in there. Ali Cabbars’ work addresses political, psychological and existential, processed through politically changed issues in his works implicate a didactic view, instead they conceal themselves either with symbols or black humor. He utilizes black humor as a means of undertaking the cruelty, injustice.

Today that is all from us. Istanbul is full of art, especially Istiklal Street , and if you keep your eyes open you might experience something new.
